The "Gift" in 2013- Tuesday Tales Returns!

Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Happy Tuesday and time for another edition of Tuesday Tales. This week I take you  to my new young adult romance WIP,  Black Diamond Hearts are the Most Difficult.   Matthew and Laurel finish a day on the slopes.  I present the following word prompt " gift ": "Just as she turned to look up toward the slope, Matthew skidded comically on the packed powder rapidly advancing toward her.   His ski poles flailed at odd angles, while he wobbled from side to side. Laurel held her ground, digging her toes into her boots, she jammed her poles into the ground on each side of her. Indeed, Matthew stopped easily and abruptly before he plowed Laurel over onto the dirty snow-covered ground. Skidding sideways, his skis skittered slightly against the corny icy sludge covering the parking lot. “I knew you would stop, coach.   You never fooled me.” “That stuff is getting crusty toward the bottom of this run, I almo...

Keep the Demon "Silent" - Tuesday Tales

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Happy Tuesday and time for another edition of Tuesday Tales. This week I take you back to my young adult paranormal thriller WIP,  Blue Ink- The Skin Stalker.   This book is now 3/4 finished and the excitement is taking me over! For this week's word prompt, we use " silent ", very appropriate for a book about a killer, don't you think? "Colin sat silent. He had no response, except he needed to know about Hannah so he could protect Joelle.   He knew no one believed his innocence and he completely understood why.   “You have to protect Joelle, she is in danger, I don’t know why, I just know she is!”   Colin had to make the lieutenant understand.   “You don’t need to convince me, and we are making sure she is safe, so, no one, not even you, will get to her.”   The lieutenant emphasized the “you”. Colin then remembered his spunky assistant and how she now lie cold. “Where did you find Hannah?” ...

Do Demons Vote? A Blue Ink "Election" Tuesday Tale

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Happy Tuesday and time for another edition of Tuesday Tales. This week I take you again to my new paranormal thriller WIP,  Blue Ink-the Skin Stalker -    For our journey to the unknown, I present the word prompt "election". Colin needed physical interaction to ease his mental trauma and right now, his stress meter was off the charts.   Melanie would be perfect.   He watched her pert breasts through her v-neck shirt, sweat beading underneath his hairline. Stop.   Get up.   Leave.   You are a murder magnet and some psychopath is tailing you.   It is not all about you, stupid arrogant asshole.   Colin ran through all the scenarios in his head and each one ended the same way.   Melanie folded into an equipment bag.   Then, on an autopsy slab.   He needed to move away from her, now.   “Hey, thanks for the coffee and the concern.   I just need to get home and sort some thi...

Do You Believe in Ghosts? Tuesday Tale

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Happy Tuesday and time for another edition of Tuesday Tales. This week I take you again to my new paranormal thriller WIP,  Blue Ink-the Skin Stalker -    For our journey to the unknown, I present the word prompt "ghost". “What the hell?” Sascha’s mate uttered fearfully. “It’s just the wind, Maria. Go back to sleep.” Sascha urged as she rubbed her lover’s shoulders. “Why am I burning? Look at these spots on my stomach.” Maria bent forward to examine herself. “The wind didn’t do this.” “I’ve got them too. Maybe they are spider bites?” Sascha offered disdainfully. “I’ve had spider bites, this is not the same thing. These are burns, like someone dropped acid or hot coals on us.” “I’ll go check out the living room.” Sascha exited the bed, pulling a shirt over her head. “I’m going too.” Maria got up and together they crept toward their bedroom door. Sascha grabbed the doorknob and reluctantly began turning it before a fo...

Deserving a Toast....Black Diamond Hearts-Tuesday Tales

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Happy Tuesday and time for another edition of Tuesday Tales. This week I take you to my current winter Olympic flavored romance, Black Diamond Hearts are the Most Difficult. For our journey, I present the picture prompt "champagne". "He wondered if it was all about the thought of a juicy cheeseburger, or if her long blonde locks had anything to do with it. “Cheeseburger? Are you high?”   Laurel teased Matthew with a ridiculous assumption.   “What do you mean, Miss Health Nut, you having a baked potato, broiled chicken, and salad-again?” Laurel socked Matthew in the shoulder with a padded gloved fist.   “I’m not that bad, old man , but, I am in training after all.”   She used one ski pole to snap down on the back of her bindings as she clicked her ski boots out of their tight hold.   She moved quickly, having perfected the act hundreds, if not thousands, of times.   Matthew pushed forward a sho...

Demise on Top of a Mountain...Blue Ink-Tuesday Tales

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Happy Tuesday and time for another edition of Tuesday Tales. This week I return to my current demonic, paranormal thriller, Blue Ink: The Skin Stalker for our journey to the top...I present-  " mountain ". "The Skin Stalker reached his destination, Echo Mountain .   He willed his evil connection to the underworld to transport him and his sacrifice, Hannah, to the top.   He held her loosely in his arms, as if her virtue burned his vile leathery skin.   Her head hung gracelessly backward toward the ground. The wind rushed through her long hair, blowing it around her face and across her delicate features- now relaxed in the throes of death.   The end of mortal Hannah happened on the top of Echo Mountain. The Skin Stalker roared viciously as Hannah took a final breath and released it noiselessly.   Yet, in death, she smiled, confusing the demon monster known as Skin Stalker.   Her body no longer a heavy weight, i...

Have You Ever Been White with Fear....Blue Ink-Tuesday Tales

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Happy Tuesday and time for another edition of Tuesday Tales. This week I return to my current demonic, paranormal thriller, Blue Ink: The Skin Stalker for my take on the benign word, " white ". Is our heroine white with fear? Or has she conquered this particular demon....let's see-   " The closer Joelle came to knowing the truth- The Skin Stalker became agitated and impulsive.   He felt her growing knowledge sawing into his abdomen and cutting into his carefully laid plans.   Joelle released her fear gradually- the more she prayed and read her scripture.   Through careful soul-searching, she knew she could defeat whatever came for her.   She felt the pull of grace guiding her through her research and diligence.   This was not her doing, she simply provided the physical vessel Christ chose to move through.   For the first time in days, she smiled sincerely and felt warmth encompass her.   Previously in her...

Don't Go Burning Bridges...Blue Ink - Tuesday Tales

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Happy Tuesday and time for another edition of Tuesday Tales. This week I return to my current demonic, paranormal thriller, Blue Ink: The Skin Stalker for my take on the versatile word, "bridge". Did Colin forever burn his bridge with Joelle?  Let's see, shall we... (view from atop the St Louis Arch of a Mississippi River Bridge) "Colin breathed a huge sigh of relief before replying, “Oh, Joelle, thank goodness you answered the phone.”   Colin’s voice carried an unusual ring of panic that she had never heard before. Joelle’s heart stopped for a moment.   She had not heard his voice in so long- she sat quietly, digesting the words to say.   She appreciated the chair she sat in to keep her knees from buckling.   “Colin?”   Joelle finally managed. “Yes, it’s me,” Colin replied softly. “This really is not a good time,” Joelle flatly stated with profound emphasis.   Colin knew he had some ...

A Little Black Book....from Blue Ink for Tuesday Tales

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Happy Tuesday and time for another edition of Tuesday Tales. This week I return to my current demonic, paranormal thriller, Blue Ink: The Skin Stalker for my take on the simple word, "book". Have you ever wondered if a Little Black Book lifestyle may not really be fulfilling? Let's see if Colin receives any epiphanies. "He powered up the laptop and clicked on the most accessible news link. He scanned the headlines for any indication of missing women or murders. Both topics too heavy for a random Thursday night, but something in his gut required him to make sure Sascha had not made the news that day. After he eased his troubled mind of Sascha’s safety, his thoughts turned again to his lifestyle. He wondered why he felt pangs of guilt lately. He lived the dream. He paid his taxes. He tipped accordingly. He gave to charity. Hell, he even adopted two angels last year for the Salvation Army. He gave his money; however, Colin could not...

Am I Blue? If So, I've Lost Oxygen-Tuesday Tales

Image
Hello Fellow Fathomers! Today's Tuesday Tale involves the word or theme, " blue ". I chose to continue with my usual installments from my current thriller work in progress (WIP) Blue Ink- The Skin Stalker. "As the girls devised their plans for the rest of the day, it took Joelle away from the macabre research she had been doing.   She decided not to say anything to Suzette until she actually made it to Joelle’s house.   Suzette would be over in an hour or so and they would relax, gossip, and order in food.   They never really needed big plans; they just enjoyed catching up these days.   No doubt, Suzette would offer many opinions as to what was on Joelle’s mind lately.   Joelle took a shower and allowed the hot water to relax her tense and aching muscles.   She wanted to clear her mind so when she and Suzette discussed the recent events, she would be articulate and controlled.   Joelle could still not figure out why Colorado had be...

Phobias! It's Friday the 13th...muah ha ha EVIL LAUGH

Image
Hello Fellow Fathomers and welcome to Friday the 13 th in The Locker. Today we celebrate by discussing PHOBIAS. According to the good folks at Wikipedia “phobia” is simply described as follows: “ A phobia (from the Greek : φόβος , Phóbos , meaning "fear" or "morbid fear") is, when used in the context of clinical psychology , a type of anxiety disorder , usually defined as a persistent fear of an object or situation in which the sufferer commits to great lengths in avoiding, typically disproportional to the actual danger posed, often being recognized as irrational. In the event the phobia cannot be avoided entirely the sufferer will endure the situation or object with marked distress and significant interference in social or occupational activities. [1] ” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phobia Therefore, while many people may throw the word “phobia” around to emphasize their specific fear, however, generally, the diagnosis of “phobia” comes with a heftier price ta...

Ocean Waves of Rejuvenation - Tuesday Tales

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers!!  This weeks' contribution to Tuesday Tales is also from my 90% completed WIP, Blue Ink - The Skin Stalker. The genre is suspense with a romance undertone. Heat level is one flame. Our topic for this week is simply the word, "ocean". I used it in a different context than the usual....take a look: "Joelle padded to the bathroom and found the ibuprofen and Sudafed.   All she needed now was the caffeine chaser she swore by to wash down her headache relief.   Joelle headed back toward the kitchen and turned the small TV on she kept under the cabinet.   “In national news, the city of Denver...” Joelle almost dropped the glass from her hand.   She was sick of Colorado.   “I don’t care about Denver!   Take the whole state and fall off into a sinkhole for all I care!”   She spoke through clenched teeth at the TV screen as though it might converse with her.   She snapped off the TV in frustration and decided she would...

Seeing RED - Tuesday Tales

Image
Hello Fellow Fathomers! Today's Tuesday Tale involves the word or theme, "red". I chose to continue from last week's installment of Tuesday Tales from my current thriller work in progress (WIP) Blue Ink- The Skin Stalker. Today, The Skin Stalkers' victims simply wanted an exhilirating day of rock climbing....yet, it ended quite dismally for them instead. "...Maria finally looked down to Sascha.   Even from her distance up the face of the rock, she observed Sascha looked peculiar as well.   “Are you ok?” Maria choked out.   Sascha looked up, her stance wobbling at the movement to look skyward.   Maria felt fear in her gut as the rope loosened from Sascha’s instability.   “Hey!”   Maria forced out.   Maria’s exertion, combined with her fear, increased her heart rate, dizzying her equilibrium.   Sascha watched Maria, feebly holding onto the rope, as she worked to tighten her grip, “I’ve….got…you, babe.” Sascha answered Maria’s fe...

Retreating From the Comfort Zone - Tuesday Tales

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Welcome to Tuesday Tales, a new project I'm delighted to be a part of. Each of the authors included in this series will contribute a sneak teaser at a work in progress, an inspired paragraph, or other flash fiction contribution. Today's subject is based upon a photo of a city of our choice. I chose Denver, CO, the setting most largely detailed in my suspense novel, Blue Ink-The Skin Stalker. I step out of the romance genre with this project, a first of many I have in progress substantially set outside my usual lovestory angles. The only way we grow is stepping outside our comfort zones, wouldn't you agree? Now, I reveal to you a snippet from Blue Ink : Excerpt from WIP- 'Blue Ink- The Skin Stalker' “...I don’t know anything and cannot offer help with this one.   Back off buddy, do yourself a favor.” Colin shifted into survivor mode and treated it like a business deal.   This frame of mind was Colin’s comfort zone and he operated t...
