I'm in Texas, but, there is a nationwide hotline you can start with Suicide Lifeline . there is another way, let someone help you explore your options. hugs 1-800-273-8255 Review     13 Reasons Why   PLEASE NOTE: this contains spoilers of the Netflix series , 13 Reasons Why based upon the novel of the same name by Jay Asher . It’s hard for me to put into words how this series made me feel. I raised two boys who are now in their twenties, but, still have my 17 year old daughter at home. My sons really didn’t experience bullying. However, my daughter is another story. Even though she’d been at the same school since late Kindergarten, she was anointed an outcast. Some of the things that happened made me so angry, I remember on...

REVIEW All the Ugly and Wonderful Things Bryn Greenwood

Image
Review All the Ugly and Wonderful Things       It’s hard for me to put into words how this book made me feel. On one hand, the book flirts with taboos. The storyline made me occasionally cringe, and stop reading. However, I’d pick it back up and start again, anxious to see how the story ends. I have to say it’s Bryn’s outstanding writing style that kept me coming back to the book. I dare say I enjoyed her writing more than the story itself. The story simply a catalyst weaving her gorgeous tapestry of syllables. Bryn put me smack dab in the middle of the dejected, uncomfortable existence of the characters. I cannot call this a romantic love story. I had to step out of my comfort zone, and see the world through Wavy Quinn’s eyes, the leading character in this bitter tale. Bryn does a superb job squaring the reader firmly into Wavy’s mind.   I could understand why Wavy wouldn’t speak, or why she reacted in more feral ways than socially accepta...

Tuesday Tales and Fasten Your Seat Belts

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. Once per month, we even write to an image.  You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds. This week our group writes to the word- fasten.    This will be an excerpt f ro m my new WIP for a new romance contemporary, Steal My Heart. Enjoy!~ “I want to know about Lola.” Immediately my back teeth gritted into stress mode. How would I talk about my lover- her mother- with my sister ? Somehow, the connection made me feel dirty. “Okay, I see that look on your face. Honestly, are you telling me you’ve never heard of a mother and daughter having sex with the same guy?” What the fuck? “Holy shit, Sharlyn, where are you going with this?” “Stop it, dammit, I’m just saying, I’ve heard before where one of them find a guy and sleeps with him. At some point later, the ...

My Medicated Mid-Life #teamHumira...maybe

Image
My Medicated Mid-Life There’s nothing more humbling than taking a child’s pose in yoga. For real. I mean, taking a break in a yoga class seems like the wuss way out. But, today, I had to do just that. Take a child’s pose. My feet were cramping up something horrible during balance poses. My hamstrings stretched crankily, balking when I folded over. FROM THIS     My eagle had landed. Pun intended. TO THIS In class, I was torn between feeling so much joy that I was there, at least doing what I could and crying because my body wasn’t cooperating. At moments, I felt like I was failing in a world I use to govern. A few years ago, I pushed myself, doing just a few more seconds in plank, running a few more minutes, lifting a stronger weight. Now, I’m lucky to sweat. I relish when I sweat. I’m ecstatic when I sweat. I’ll repeat what I said last week: “I try to remind myself to perform at least gentle stretching exercises every day. Living with RA and...

Tuesday Tales on a Shingle

Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. Once per month, we even write to an image. This week, we write to an image.    This will be an excerpt f ro m my new WIP for a new romance contemporary. Enjoy!~   “Yes, the one someone dropped on my doorstep.” Curiosity squelched all Andrew’s natural male reactions. “It contained a kids menu from our restaurant and an unused condom. They used a rare stamp in the outside corner of the envelope.” “I didn’t look very closely, but it looked like the same kind of stamp. He came back very quickly and guided me out of there. The entire time he was definitely checking out his desk in the direction of those stamps.” “The police still have that letter.” The wheels spinning in Andrew’s mind practically became visible. “I still think the stamp came from my father’s collection. Several sheet...

Tuesday Tales Moving Into February Ring the Bell!

Image
Happy February Tuesday Tales... Today, I return to my current WIP, Personal Fouls, Book 3 for my Fantasy Leagues series. This week our group writes to the rather rebellious word,  ring . I put a different spin on the usual meaning this time of year... “Your father won’t stand trial for the murder charges.”  Louise appeared tired, yet relieved. “As his power of attorney, I signed a plea agreement with the District Attorney on his behalf.” “What else was in the plea?” I certainly didn’t want my mom taking any heat for his shit. I knew it was a long shot, but, I wanted to know for sure. “He will stay in the state remanded facility for the rest of his life. I basically admitted guilt for him.” “You really couldn’t have done anything else.” “Something else, I won’t be seeing him ever again.” “I understand mom. I’d never expect you to.” “When he dies, the state will cremate his body. We will not have a service. I paid for all expenses up front. I won’t return...
