Tuesday Tales and What About Life

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. Once per month, we even write to an image.  You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds. This week our group writes to the word- life .    This will be an excerpt f ro m my new WIP for a new romance contemporary, What the Storm Didn't Take. Enjoy!~ “I’m embarrassed even admitting to you I don’t see mom enough.” “We all let life get in the way. I’m not judging you, only offering a small reminder.” I saw my husband every day before he died. I was always thankful I took a local job close to home that didn’t monopolize my day the way some careers would have. Standing, he placed the little plastic characters on my table. “I’m gonna leave these with you. I thought they might bring a little smile, if anything. I’ve got my normal rounds, but, I’ll check in this ...

Tuesday Tales to Grab You

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! This week our group writes to the diverse word- grab .    This will be an excerpt f ro m Twister Fate, a new WIP for a new romance contemporary. “You’re in a very bleak place. On one hand, you deserve the right to mourn the loss of Billy. He was your world, your partner, the one you planned to conquer the world with. But, on the other hand, you have a baby growing inside who already loves you. You are his, or her, entire world. With this little person, your priorities change from your own needs to the baby’s needs. You’ve got to be there one hundred percent, taking all the responsibility of mother and father. It’s not a task for the faint of heart. Not everyone could do it.” Was this some kind of reverse psychology bullshit? “Thank you Captain Obvious. I thought I had some obscenely huge tumor in my stomach.” “Stop, you’re just as feisty as when we were kids. You know what I meant.” “I’m not really sure I do know ....

Tuesday Tales and a Picture is Worth 300 Words

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! This week our group writes to a photo prompt. As usual, we only have 300 words to accompany the visual prompt. We had a few images to choose from, giving a little more creative freedom.  I chose the following picture, as it fit in better with my 300 word snippet.     This will be an excerpt f ro m Twister Fate, a new WIP for a new romance contemporary. -The summer before my freshman year of high school was exciting and scary. I spent most of the days with my best friend, Cameron Murphy. Cameron and I had been friends since the first grade. Although we became closer that last summer we spent together. Before he moved away, breaking my young heart. We spent hours drifting down the river on inner tubes, laughing and splashing our way down the lazy current. The sunburns couldn’t quell our excitement to be alone in swimsuits, as my body gave me impulses to be closer to his skin. Fear coupled as deeply with curi...

Tuesday Tales - We Got the Beat!

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! This week our group writes to the simple sounding word- beat .    This will be an excerpt f ro m Snow Spankings, a new WIP for a new erotic contemporary. Slowing the truck to a crawl, Billy bypassed uninjured folks, craning his neck looking for those in immediate need. A private melody continued in his mind, easing his distress, loosening the grip on his chest. Our bodies touch, I don’t need my eyes to see… Dreaming of what you mean to me… Billy wouldn’t ignore anyone seriously injured, no matter how absorbed he was on reaching her. Thankfully though, no one approached him in a panic, requiring his instant attention. I’ll circle back, once I see she’s okay . Relief washed over him, although very little scenery looked familiar. He felt himself getting closer to his bride, closing the cluttered gap over the destruction. Sunrise means I can see you again… Thank God time passes so quickly till then… The few m...

Tuesday Tales and Stolen Kisses!

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! This week our group writes to the simple sounding word- stolen .    This will be an excerpt f ro m Snow Spankings, a new WIP for a new erotic contemporary. “Stolen kisses are the best.” Lazily, Tabitha stretched her arms above her head, cradling Alec’s head between her reach. “You looked so beautiful, I couldn’t resist.” “I didn’t mean to fall asleep, I guess I needed a nap.” “I kept you up late last night, it’s my fault.” “What happens when we return to reality? I mean we both have jobs and lives outside of each other. Everything happened so fast between us, how do we merge our days?” An important fact remained that neither of them figured a new love connection in their responsibilities. Everything was dreamy behind closed doors on a day off work or other demands. The daily grind chipped away at fun or impulsiveness, leaving few hours or even minutes to spare. “How do we keep this energy alive?” “I’m not sure we hav...

Tuesday Tales and Love Birds...ahhh spring

Image
Happy Spring Forward Tuesday Tales... Today, I present my current WIP, Love Birds This week our group writes to the rather innocuous word, stair . I put a different spin on the usual meaning for their introduction...   "This looks more like a stair step.” “You’re doing a great job. The birds will love it.” This do-it-yourself birdhouse looked more like a rectangle shipping box. I can’t believe my cousin talked me into this ridiculous party. “Terri, why did I let you drag me to this?” “Because you sit home every night watching romantic comedies and drinking your habitual one glass of sweet wine. You gotta get out of that apartment.” Positioning the nail just right, I poised my hammer to take aim. Raring back, I hit hard- much harder than I should. Especially since the nail dropped out of the little hole leaving my thumb exposed. “Holy shit that hurt!” “Dang it, Sunni, what did you do?” Terri became all motherly, using her six months older age as a...
