Tuesday Tales with Chain

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. Once per month, we even write to an image.  You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds. This week our group writes to the word-chain.    This will be an excerpt f ro m my new yet-to-be-named WIP. Enjoy!~ “I have people whispering behind my back too, but, they don’t do it as much the more time passes. Eventually they stop.” Owen thought back to the times when everyone in town looked at him with a mixed gaze of fear and pity. He hated it then and really hated it now. “Plus, I have tough skin, it all rolls off.” Owen knew that was a lie, but, it sounded good. “Let’s stop with the motivational speech. My life hasn’t been any good from as far back as I can remember. I was basically still a kid when everything got messed up. This isn’t about sticks and stones breakin...

Saluting our Soldiers-Wounded Warriors Blog Hop

Image
Time for your chance to WIN and help a GREAT cause! My grandpa, Marine Lt. Col. Donald D Fereday died on Independence Day, July 4, 2003, forever haunted by the scenes he encountered while serving in Korea. Many of our men and women who serve become physically and mentally wounded everyday protecting our freedoms.  Ahoy Fellow Fathomers. By now, you know I enjoy creating fictional worlds readers will identify with. Although I hope readers escape with my words, I also entwine helpful storylines that might help make a difference. However, sometimes events and issues in our realm are not always comfortable subjects-I tackle them in some manner anyway. Today's blog is part of a special blog hop to raise money for the Wounded Warriors project. At minimum, the group of writers involved in this opportunity will raise $600 for their organization. If you would like to see how more you can help, please click this link Wounded Warriors . I will donate ...

Falling Into You - Jasinda Wilder - Book Review 5 Snowflakes

Image
Falling Into You - Goodreads Book Review ***** Snowflakes Falling Into You by Jasinda Wilder – Book One to the Parallel Follow Up Novel Falling Into Us This read-in-a-couple days book is the first full length I’ve read by Jasinda Wilder. After I saw the news piece featuring Jasinda, I felt a respect and admiration for her. So, I read a few of her short free novellas and enjoyed her writing style. I downloaded Falling Into You and gave it a chance.   From the news story, I appreciated where her spark for writing began. I do not know her personally, but, by the publicized accounts, she really opened up about her personal life. From the outside looking in, and my perspective, it became crystal clear the initial drive for employment does not truly seem to generate her intensity. All along, this smart, spunky lady had a writer’s heart and no matter how difficult the road, fate intervened, and a broken road led her to her true calling as an author. Of which readers should be tha...

The swim 1.5K in the Snake River, a 40K bike ride through potato fields and a small town, ending with a 10K run across dirt roads and more potato fields. Was I ready? The day approached, I drank more water than ...

Ugh, Is That Blood I Smell? - a Creepy Tuesday Tale

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Happy Tuesday and time for another edition of Tuesday Tales. This week I take you again to my new paranormal WIP, Finding Love From Roadkill, - a part of my Critter Getter series. For our journey to the unknown, I present the picture rompt "haunted house".  Keep reading and enter the Halloween Wicked After Dark Blog Hop contest!!  Our young couple in love find themselves in front of a spooky house....just after they hit something on the road...let's see what happened- "Before she could ask any more irritating questions, he jumped out and slammed the driver’s side door shut. The autumn air felt crisp against his cheeks, and he wrapped one arm around his midsection, fighting the chill as he walked. “Dadgum women, talk, talk, talk, I’d rather be out here in the pitch black in the middle of nowhere than listen to her sometimes.” The realization suddenly hit that he was indeed in the boondocks, and he felt uneasy walking back tow...

Tuesday Tales-Black Diamond Hearts are the Most Difficult

Image
Tuesday Tales Welcome Fellow Fathomers to this weeks' edition of Tuesday Tales. A group of writers getting together to share their WIP on a common theme. The theme for today is baseball... take a look at my contribution: "The drought left the pasture as dusty, dirt colored cement.   Huge cracks revealing a depth of at least a couple of feet spread here and there across the barren surface.   However, Matthew Hughes would be successful, no matter the difficulty, as he prepared for his grim mission.   He looked out upon the barren meadow and blinked back a few tears. He normally enjoyed his visits back to the family ranch in Oklahoma. Although, Matthew’s parents raised him in the grandeur of the Rockies-granola hippies who loved the crisp smell of the evergreens and bluebird days on the fluffy slopes of snow.   He enjoyed the best of both worlds as his grandparents and various aunts and uncles lived in Oklahoma from birth on. They maintained the famil...

Shades of Gray Book Review a novel by Andy Holloman

Image
Meet Andy!  Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Today in The Locker I introduce to you the latest book I read, Shades of Gray by Andy Holloman.  Goodreads Andy Holloman (not to be confused with the other Grey book floating around out there) After I read Andy Holloman’s Shades of Gray , I realized the feeling I had at the conclusion of the book reminded me of a long ago time in a high school class. A teacher proposed the Heinz Dilemma to us, in hopes of a spirited debate. If you are unfamiliar with the Heinz Dilemma, I’ll digress away from my review for a moment. Lawrence Kohlberg’s theory of six stages of moral development is a modification and expansion of Jean Piaget’s simpler two stage theory.   Kohlberg used the “Heinz Dilemma” short parable- if you will- as a way to explain each of his six theorized stages. Heinz Steals the Drug “ In Europe, a woman was near death from a special kind of cancer. There was one drug that the doctors thought might save her...

Bullied But Not Broken - Tuesday Tales

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! For todays' Tuesday Tale I bring to you another WIP entitled Leather, Laces, and Camping By The Sea . This dear to my heart YA novella profiles a young girls' struggle with being bullied and ostracized. I'm only about 5% into this work, it's taking some additional time as the subject matter is more difficult than some of the lighthearted fiction I also pen. Our prompt for this week is the following picture of a trunk , and I think I captured it well. Please read on to see if you agree... "I’m the oldest twelve year old you will ever meet. I suppose you could attribute it to the fact I have two older brothers, and my family friends have usually been older than me. However, I also blame it on the fact that I have dealt with issues that thankfully many kids do not ever have to face. I’ve been horrifically bullied and no one has ever actually laid a hand on me. But, the bruises I harbor on my insides linger like physical scars against my ...

Seeing RED - Tuesday Tales

Image
Hello Fellow Fathomers! Today's Tuesday Tale involves the word or theme, "red". I chose to continue from last week's installment of Tuesday Tales from my current thriller work in progress (WIP) Blue Ink- The Skin Stalker. Today, The Skin Stalkers' victims simply wanted an exhilirating day of rock climbing....yet, it ended quite dismally for them instead. "...Maria finally looked down to Sascha.   Even from her distance up the face of the rock, she observed Sascha looked peculiar as well.   “Are you ok?” Maria choked out.   Sascha looked up, her stance wobbling at the movement to look skyward.   Maria felt fear in her gut as the rope loosened from Sascha’s instability.   “Hey!”   Maria forced out.   Maria’s exertion, combined with her fear, increased her heart rate, dizzying her equilibrium.   Sascha watched Maria, feebly holding onto the rope, as she worked to tighten her grip, “I’ve….got…you, babe.” Sascha answered Maria’s fe...

Flash Fiction Friday 100 no more, no less

Image
Happy Friday Fellow Fathomers! Today is the day for Friday Flash Fiction. One picture and just 100 words to describe it. Sometimes, it's easy, other times, not so much. Please ponder the following photo and think about what YOU would say?  Is she crying, praying...maybe she has a headache?  :)Now, please see my interpretation: I’m one with The Raven, although I’m not a shifter. But…I’m not completely human either. I have Raven’s wings, bestowed upon me in a moment of heated passion. Deep black, almost tinged blue, against porcelain skin, a startling contrast. My proud breasts announce my arrival- as I move past you, my wings signal departure. You may not notice anything else unless you study me closely. I don’t believe I’m beautiful. Or, he wouldn’t have left me. What will I do now without a flock? I’m an outcast.   He did this to me. Summoning the inner strength to move on…my fortitude. Now, please visit the blogs of my friends for their interpre...
