Tuesday Tales and Picture Prompt

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific prompt each week. Most of the time we write to a certain word. Once per month we write to a picture prompt, and limit our entries to 300 words. I chose this cute kitchen shelf. You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds.  This will be an excerpt f ro m my new yet-to-be-named WIP. The decision to eat more went round and round in my brain, while the scrambled eggs cooled to room temperature. Soon, it would be even less appetizing, so, I needed to decide fast. The baby kicked just in time, giving me the cue to make a happy plate. I’d give it my best effort, taking another challenging swallow. My mind reversed to a mealtime far far away in our cozy country kitchen. Garrett’s voice softly drifted into my mind. “This looks good, I’ll fix you some.” Surveying the pans on the...

This week our group writes to the word- fasten.    This will be an excerpt f ro m my new WIP for a new romance contemporary, Steal My Heart. Enjoy!~ “I want to know about Lola.” Immediately my back teeth gritted into stress mode. How would I talk about my lover- her mother- with my sister ? Somehow, the connection made me feel dirty. “Okay, I see that look on your face. Honestly, are you telling me you’ve never heard of a mother and daughter having sex with the same guy?” What the fuck? “Holy shit, Sharlyn, where are you going with this?” “Stop it, dammit, I’m just saying, I’ve heard before where one of them find a guy and sleeps with him. At some point later, the ...

Enjoy!~   “Lola dear, why don’t you come to my house for a few days? I’ll take care of you.” Laverne fretted over Lola, arranging and rearranging the sheet on the bed. “Mom, I appreciate you. I don’t think I’ve told you enough.” It was easy now to see how much Laverne loved me. She’d always wanted included, I was good at shutting her out for years. “I’ll come over for a night or two, will that satisfy you?” A twinkle appeared followed by a full on face smile. “I’m so happy!” “Tell me my bed isn’t covered in puzzles.” Okay, that was harsh. “You know what, never mind, I don’t care. I’ll push them off when it’s time to go to sle...

Enjoy!~   “Absolutely, my parents have been saving money for years to help me do this. It’s what I’ve wanted since I was a kid. Now, it’s finally happening.” “Won’t your girlfriend miss you?” Where did that come from? Was my mouth so desperate for communication it went rogue? I blame it on the Id, lurking in the corners of my personality, waiting for the opportunity to join the conversation. Tweaking my nose with his finger ever so gently, he actually answered my bold question. “I don’t have a girlfriend, problem solved.”                  ...

This week our group writes to the word- pill .    This will be an excerpt f ro m Twister Fate, my new WIP for a new romance contemporary. Enjoy!~ Strolling into the kitchen, I wondered if she had a guilty conscience. “What’s up?” Not missing a beat, she continued chopping vegetables, throwing a question back at me. “Did you have a nice visit with Violet?” “More than just nice, it was enlightening. She was so forthcoming about how you called Conner to come see me after I got home. Really? Why did you do that? What made you do such a thing?” That made her stop chopping. “I was worried about you. I knew he was a huge support to you in the hospital. Why do you think I didn...

Enjoy!~ “You’re going to be better than fine, you’re going to be amazing.” Conner whispered from above, so soft I’m sure the nurse behind him didn’t hear him. How did he know I was in a panic? “I hope so.” I could only whisper back in faith, because I had no confidence in myself. A slight hesitation at the automatic sliding doors, he momentarily stopped pushing. I swear I heard him inhale sharply, deeply. I imagined his hands gripping the handles, tighter than I held my son, for fear I’d break him. We were both holding on…to what I...

She’s actually looking for jobs out there.” Suddenly, this girl angered me, taking advantage of Cameron’s emotions. He was too much a gentleman to tell her no. “What about your job? Seems to me it should be up to you, since you’re gonna be a doctor.” “I can get a job just about anywhere. There’s always a need for physicians.” “Don’t you have to take state license exams or something to practice medicine in different states? That test can’t be too easy.” “You’re right, most states require separate testing, but there’s some reciprocity too.” Running his hand through his hair, he appeared contrite. “We...
