I know better than that, but, was having such a fun time with friends and family. The axe returned fiercely between my eyes about 11:30pm. It didn’t leave until sometime the next afternoon. But, the lupus flare ...

Hugs for today … Training this year, 2012, for the July triathlon in Idaho took more out of me than the previous years’ training. I lacked energy and strength from 2011, and I began to dread my workout sessions. Dread seems like such a strong word. But, that’s what I felt. I slowed up on the intensity, I dropped the two a days. I did ...

Just Out of My Grasp - My Personal Journey with SLE

Just Out of my Grasp Ahoy Fellow Fathomers, I’ve decided to use my blog not only to writing, music, and other facets of entertainment, but, also to share my journey. I found out on June 19, 2013 the reason for many of my ongoing health problems is because I have systemic lupus, also known as SLE. Ironically, a year or so ago, one of my best friends had a co-worker, Mel, who died as a result of complications from lupus. I kept thinking Mel was in her sixties, (still not “old” by any stretch), but, I in fact found out Mel died at age 44. Heavy heart. Mel suffered from so many health complications as she declined, she could barely handle a one hour lunch with her friends. Toward the end, it seemed to me that her death was a blessing of sorts. However, that was well before I found out I had lupus too. Stolen years. I have a life to live, I have plans. So, the question began, “Is this the best I’m gonna feel for the rest of my life?” Despair. Thank you for listening, ea...

Take a Walk with author, Sarah Cass

Image
Today in The Locker I welcome the beautiful and talented, Sarah Cass. If you’ve not read anything by Sarah, including her blog, I strongly encourage you to take a trip into her world. She weaves words wonderfully. And now, without further delay, Sarah takes over-- A Most Disturbing Place Last November I was carrying on a conversation with my mother.   We were killing time while my son was having some tests run during his hospital stay, and talk drifted to my writing. I was regaling my mom with what I thought were humorous stories of my contracted novels and characters.   I talked about my first novel, Changing Tracks (Dominion Falls #1) , and the torment my heroine, Jane goes through.   About her amnesia and the maniac hot on her tail. About the romance that’s woven through and the hilarious wit both the hero and heroine possess. After that I slipped into talk about Masked Hearts . I waxed a little nostalgic over the details of the Bear River Mass...

The Light in Their Eyes - Tuesday Tales

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Happy Tuesday and time for another edition of Tuesday Tales. This week I take you  to my (still yet unnamed) new young adult WIP, to include the word, "light". Please enjoy! “Look, look, he kissed her again!” Little girl giggles broke out across the darkened room. “What do you think that’s like?” “I don’t know but, it looks silly.” Suddenly, light illuminated the sterile room, hindering the “show” the two young girls watched, causing them to squint against the sudden irritation. “Hey, we can’t see the movie anymore.” “What in the world are you talking about?” The older gentleman doctor sauntered across to where the young ladies sat. “Your television isn’t even turned on.” “No, not on TV, see!” Patsy, the little girl with dark brown ringlets pointed toward the window. Doctor Hawley bent forward and peered intently through the heavy single pane window. A drive-in theater screen danced with the action of a film a few blocks f...

The autumn air felt crisp against his cheeks, and he wrapped one arm around his midsection, fighting the chill as he walked. “Dadgum women, talk, talk, talk, I’d rather be out here in the pitch black in the middle of nowhere than listen to her sometimes.” The realization suddenly hit that he was indeed in the boondocks, and he felt uneasy walking back tow...

A Little Black Book....from Blue Ink for Tuesday Tales

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Happy Tuesday and time for another edition of Tuesday Tales. This week I return to my current demonic, paranormal thriller, Blue Ink: The Skin Stalker for my take on the simple word, "book". Have you ever wondered if a Little Black Book lifestyle may not really be fulfilling? Let's see if Colin receives any epiphanies. "He powered up the laptop and clicked on the most accessible news link. He scanned the headlines for any indication of missing women or murders. Both topics too heavy for a random Thursday night, but something in his gut required him to make sure Sascha had not made the news that day. After he eased his troubled mind of Sascha’s safety, his thoughts turned again to his lifestyle. He wondered why he felt pangs of guilt lately. He lived the dream. He paid his taxes. He tipped accordingly. He gave to charity. Hell, he even adopted two angels last year for the Salvation Army. He gave his money; however, Colin could not...

It Puts Me Right Over the Moon...Tuesday Tales

Image
Tuesday Tales Welcome Fellow Fathomers to this weeks' edition of Tuesday Tales. A group of writers getting together to share their WIP on a common theme. The picture theme for today is MOON... take a look at my contribution from my upcoming YA novel- Leather, Laces, and Camping by the Sea :   "Hi, I’m Helena. I turned twelve this year and will begin junior high in the fall. I’ve lived in the same town and attended the same school system for most of my academic career. I attend a church youth group, play softball, take pre-AP classes, and have a voracious appetite for learning about animals. Someday, I want to own my own zoo. Okay, well, maybe a zoologist or biologist or a large animal vet. My mom, Elaine, moved us to Texas when she got a promotion with her job. I was at the very end of Kindergarten when I transferred schools. I enjoyed the last few weeks of my new school with field trips, games, and movie days and made friends quickly. I’ve always be...

Tuesday Tales-Black Diamond Hearts are the Most Difficult

Image
Tuesday Tales Welcome Fellow Fathomers to this weeks' edition of Tuesday Tales. A group of writers getting together to share their WIP on a common theme. The theme for today is baseball... take a look at my contribution: "The drought left the pasture as dusty, dirt colored cement.   Huge cracks revealing a depth of at least a couple of feet spread here and there across the barren surface.   However, Matthew Hughes would be successful, no matter the difficulty, as he prepared for his grim mission.   He looked out upon the barren meadow and blinked back a few tears. He normally enjoyed his visits back to the family ranch in Oklahoma. Although, Matthew’s parents raised him in the grandeur of the Rockies-granola hippies who loved the crisp smell of the evergreens and bluebird days on the fluffy slopes of snow.   He enjoyed the best of both worlds as his grandparents and various aunts and uncles lived in Oklahoma from birth on. They maintained the famil...
