Saturday Sippers in The Locker Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Welcome to the feature here in The Locker called Saturday Sippers. Each week I’ll post a new, sometimes, skinny cocktail recipe for you to try. Many thinks to my Cali Bestie, Rhonda, for providing me with the deck of cards recipe book. J Fall continues to stir cravings of soothing, filling drinks. Always a sucker for a good martini, this one sounds delicious. VANILLA VODKA CREAMTINI! Ingredients Cocoa powder 2 cups ice cubes 1 cup vanilla vodka ½ cup Irish cream liqueur 1 T orange liqueur Chocolate shavings for garnish Coat glass rims with cocoa powder. In a cocktail shaker with ice, combine ingredients. Shake vigorously. Strain mixture into martini glasses. Garnish with chocolate shavings. Serves 4-6 232 Calories per serving

J In honor of builders and hard workers everywhere, it is fitting to propose this drink, its’ namesake comes from a handtool: SLIM SCREWDRIVER! Ingredients 1 ounce vodka 2 ounces orange juice 2 ounces diet lemon-lime soda* Orange slice for garnish Fill a glass with ice; add vodka and a splash of orange juice. Top with diet lemon-lime soda. Many thinks to my Cali Bestie, Rhonda, for providing me with the deck of cards recipe book. J Hard to believe, but, here in Texas, we are still hitting 100 degrees in September. A frozen drink is still in order and tequila is good ANY time of the year. FROZEN LIME MARGARITAS! Ingredients 12 ounce can frozen limeade 2/3 cup tequila 1 ½ cup orange liqueur 4 cups ice cubes ½ lime Coarse salt Cocktail cherry for garnish Prepare margarita glasses by using a thick slice of lime to rub the rim of each glass. Invert glass into a dish of coarse salt to coat rim. Blend ingredients.   Add ice cubes and blend until mixture becomes slushy. Garnish with cocktail cherry. Serves 10 122 Calories per serving

Ingredients 12 ounce can mango juice 12 ounce can pineapple juice 1 liter bottle of seltzer 1 bottle white wine Pineapple slices, orange slices, and lime slices Lemon and lime slices for garnish Pour all of the ingredients into a serving pitcher and add ice. Stir and refrigerate one hour. Garnish with lemon and lime slices. 94 Calories per serving

J The versatile margarita comes in many flavors to tantalize the taste buds.   This traditional recipe should appeal to the Conquistador in all of us.   MARGARITA ON THE ROCKS! Ingredients 1 ¾ ounces tequila ¾ ounce lime juice 1 Tablespoon light agave nectar ¼ teaspoon orange extract Coarse salt Lime wedge for garnish Salt rim of margarita glass.   In a shaker combine all ingredients with ice and shake vigorously. Many thinks to my Cali Bestie, Rhonda, for providing me with the deck of cards recipe book. J Today’s drink features an ingredient called Aperol, something I was not familiar with. However, thanks to our friends at Google, I found the origin of this yummy sounding aperitif. It is bright orange in color with a zesty, bittersweet taste. A perfect ingredient for summer refreshments, this Italian import is a product of the Campari Company. VESPER! Ingredients 1 ounce vodka 1 ounce gin 1 ounce Aperol Lemon twist for garnish Stir all ingredients with ice.   Strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with lemon twist. 250 Calories Grazie!

Ingredients 2 ounces light orange tangerine juice 4 ounces champagne 2 ounces fresh orange juice Cocktail cherries for garnish Add several ice cubes to champagne flute. Pour orange juice and orange tangerine juice, followed by champagne over the ice. Let’s have another strawberry refresher to get us through this Saturday. CITRUS STRAWBERRY VODKA COCKTAIL! Ingredients 2 strawberries 1 sprig of mint ¾ ounce light agave nectar 1 ¾ ounces citrus vodka ¾ ounce lemon juice Strawberry for garnish Mint sprig for garnish In a shaker, muddle mint and strawberries.   Add remaining ingredients and shake vigorously. Pour entire contents of shaker into a tall glass. Garnish with strawberry and mint sprig 259 Calories Love the minty strawberry pulp in this one!

J Summer in Texas is only beginning to be hot, so, I’m trying to enjoy the great outdoors as much as possible before the sun drives me inside under the A/C on a regular basis. Poolside today is another refreshing escape. You can also prepare a non-alcoholic version of this by substituting sparkling cider or ginger ale for the sparkling wine. SUMMER FRUIT PUNCH! Ingredients 2 Cups diced stone fruit, (apricots, plums, peaches, nectarines) 2 Cups apricot juice 2 Cups sparkling white wine 1 cup club soda peach slice for garnish Combine diced fruit, apricot juice, sparkling wine, and club soda.   Divide among 4 ice-filled glasses. Garnish with peach slice.   203 Calories

The palm trees are blowing, the sand is soft, and the sun is shining- no better day to try this new drink than poolside or surfside. ISLAND BREEZE PUNCH! Ingredients 1 ½ ounces passion fruit flavored vodka 1 Tablespoon lime juice 1 Tablespoon lemon juice ¼ teaspoon orange extract 2 Tablespoons sugar-free pineapple syrup* ½ cup club soda Lemon and lime slices for garnish Mix all ingredients and serve over ice. Garnish with lemon and lime slices. Using real pineapple juice will raise the calorie content from 103 Calories, but, it tastes better!

In honor of our upcoming getaway, let’s try this tropical breezy concoction, combining two of my faves- blueberries and lemons. TROPICAL BLUEBERRY LEMON BREEZE! Ingredients 10 Blueberries ¾ ounce light agave nectar 1 ½ ounces gin ¾ ounce lemon juice 1 ounce champagne Blueberries for garnish In a shaker, muddle blueberries and agave. Add gin and lemon juice. Shake vigorously. Strain into a martini glass and top with champagne. Garnish with blueberries. 205 Calories

BLUEBERRY LIME MARGARITA! Ingredients 2 Cups ice 1 cup frozen blueberries 1 cup blueberry nectar ¼ cup seltzer 2 T frozen limeade 1 T lime juice 3 ounces tequila Coarse salt Blueberries for garnish Directions Combine ice, blueberries, blueberry nectar, seltzer, limeade, lime juice, and tequila. Blend until smooth. Rub rim of two glasses with lime wedge and dip in salt. Divide margarita between the prepared glasses, garnish with blueberries and serve. 125 Calories
