Tuesday Tales Rolling the Dice

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. Once per month, we even write to an image.  You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds. This week our group writes to the word- dice.    This will be an excerpt f ro m my new WIP for a new romance contemporary, What the Storm Didn't Take. Enjoy!~ Conner showed up after supper time Friday evening. I’d put aside a plate for him, tucking it into the microwave. He didn’t get many home cooked meals while he was working. These clinical rotations really took every minute of his time. I heard his car and practically skipped to the front door, holding it open as a welcoming, not just letting him in. “How are you?” He hugged me tightly with both arms. “I’m great, been a good day. Are you terribly tired?” “Nah, I’m okay. I actually got some sleep last night. What a...

What the Storm Didn't Take - SNEAK PEEK

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers...I've been working hard on my newest romance novel, What the Storm Didn't Take. I was inspired by my friendships I've had and also some of the difficulties some of my friends have gone through. Some of my dearest friends lost everything in an Oklahoma tornado. The twister literally dropped out of the sky right behind their home. Everything they owned was strewn and scattered. Thankfully, no one was hurt during the storm. However, in my novel, the heroine loses her husband as he is trying to rescue her. The way she chooses to move forward in her life drives the plot.   I'd like to offer you a sample of my book, a small excerpt of what I'm working on. In this small piece, our heroine, Rachel, is learning how to deal with reality as a young widow. A dear friend, Conner, is trying to convince her to attend a grief support group. Let's see how it goes- Despite appearances, anger had been bubbling beneath the surface, trying to ...

Tuesday Tales and a Picture is Worth 300 Words

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! This week our group writes to a photo prompt. As usual, we only have 300 words to accompany the visual prompt. We had a few images to choose from, giving a little more creative freedom.  I chose the following picture, as it fit in better with my 300 word snippet.     This will be an excerpt f ro m Twister Fate, a new WIP for a new romance contemporary. -The summer before my freshman year of high school was exciting and scary. I spent most of the days with my best friend, Cameron Murphy. Cameron and I had been friends since the first grade. Although we became closer that last summer we spent together. Before he moved away, breaking my young heart. We spent hours drifting down the river on inner tubes, laughing and splashing our way down the lazy current. The sunburns couldn’t quell our excitement to be alone in swimsuits, as my body gave me impulses to be closer to his skin. Fear coupled as deeply with curi...

Are Those Histamines in Your Pocket or are You Just Happy to See Me?

Hello Fellow Fathomers!!   I’ve decided to use my blog not only to writing, music, and other facets of entertainment, but, also to share my journey. I’ve had significant health problems for almost two years. Initially, my rheumatologist diagnosed me with systemic lupus (SLE) on June 19, 2013. However, the medication wasn’t working and I kept getting worse and developing new symptoms. So, after second, third, and fourth opinions, my neurologist believes instead I have fibromyalgia.   Thank you for listening, each week I will have a new installment chronicling my journey. Please, please feel free to comment, write, share. I hope to use this forum as a help to all of us, no matter what pain you are experiencing. You may also send stories to me via finlessbook at gmail dot com. I will respect your privacy and maintain your anonymity, if you so desire. Hugs for today … Spinach and Histamines and Darn Seasonal Allergies One of my favorite “new” foods for my healthier eati...

Tuesday Tales Conquering a Hill

Image
Amazon Allee Mae Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Welcome to Tuesday Tales. I introduce you to a new WIP I have going under my sweet pseudonym Allee Mae. It's the 3rd in my YA paranormal romance series the Critter Getters. This book is entitled  Finding Love in a Black Lagoon.  Our word prompt today is "hill" and I have plenty I can say with this particular prompt. Without further ado...please see my snippet with "hill" as the prompt word. Breathing hard, she ran off the dirt path and down a squat hill into a swath of small trees. The pointy branches poked and scratched her smooth skin, drawing blood in squiggly shaped patterns. She stomped on rocks and stickers in her bare feet, further toughening their hide. The sun glared through holes in the dense foliage, stinging her sensitive eyes. She hurdled dead felled trees, landing as lightly as a deer without breaking stride. The noise behind her quieted, confusing her senses, yet sharpened her awareness. S...

Saturday Sippers in The Locker Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Welcome to the feature here in The Locker called Saturday Sippers. Each week I’ll post a new, sometimes, skinny cocktail recipe for you to try. Many thinks to my Cali Bestie, Rhonda, for providing me with the deck of cards recipe book. J A good Bloody Mary is sometimes hard to find. It takes more than a splash of vodka into a glass of V-8- the best Bloody Mary’s leave a lingering blend of flavors on the tongue and is almost as filling as a light appetizer. I like to garnish with pickled asparagus or pickled green beans for a change of pace. I also add a bit of the pickled juice to the recipe itself. I haven’t yet tried this recipe, but, if I did would probably add a healthy dose of Louisiana hot sauce and some Cajun seasoning to the glass. BLOODY MARY COCKTAIL! Ingredients 1 ½ ounces vodka 6 ounces tomato juice 1 t lemon juice 1/8 t celery salt 3 drops hot sauce 3 drops Worcestershire sauce Dash pepper Pinch h...

Tuesday Tales Among the Evergreens

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! This week's Tuesday Tales writing prompt is "evergreen". Please see how I use this in my new WIP sweet romance,  Black Diamond Hearts are the Most Difficult . Our hero, Matthew, faces a difficult and sad task. The drought left the pasture as dusty, dirt colored cement.  Huge cracks revealing a depth of at least a couple of feet spread here and there across the barren surface.  However, Matthew Hughes prepared for his grim mission, expecting success no matter the difficulty.  His friend deserved his full attention this one last time. He looked out upon the barren meadow and blinked back a few tears. He normally enjoyed his visits back to the family ranch in Oklahoma. Although Matthew’s parents raised him in the grandeur of the Rockies-granola hippies who loved the crisp smell of the evergreens and bluebird days on the fluffy slopes of snow.  He enjoyed the best of both worlds as his grandparents and various aunts and uncles lived i...
