Tuesday Tales and Lightning Strikes

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific prompt each week. Most of the time we write to a certain word. Once per month we write to a picture prompt, and limit our entries to 300 words. I chose lightning. You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds.  This will be an excerpt f ro m my new yet-to-be-named WIP. “I’m not sure when I can make it through a storm without wanting to throw up.” Rubbing my clammy palms down my shorts, I tried unsuccessfully to rid my body of the horrible waves of rocking sensations. “I promise you won’t feel that way forever.” Connor’s voice took on that deep reassuring tone when he truly wanted to get a point across. All I wanted to do was hold my son- my baby sleeping soundly in his crib- completely unaware of his mother’s impending meltdown. “How can I raise him to...

Tuesday Tales - When a Bracelet Causes Havoc

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. This week we share the prompt "bracelet".  You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds.  This will be an excerpt f ro m my brand new yet-to-be-named WIP. Enjoy!~ Sitting in the living room watching mindless reruns, I contemplated how comforting television scripts actually were. People became involved in what seemed impossible circumstances, yet they always miraculously worked things out. I liked how in roughly twenty-five minutes major life crisis situations resolved themselves and everyone smiled absurdly at the end. This unrealistic montage of catastrophes turned to bright shiny successes, and I craved such fiction in my own life. A doorbell chime jingled me back to my reality. “Mom, are you gonna get that?” I didn’t want to move from my perm...

Tuesday Tales and Purple Days

Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. Once per month, we even write to an image.  You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds. This week our group writes to the word- purple.    This will be an excerpt f ro m my new WIP for a new romance contemporary. Enjoy!~   “I’ll keep working on the house, and you’ll finish up all your rotations in Dallas.” “Yes, keep working on your home…and I’ll join you there someday.” Twirling a few strands of hair around his finger, he twirled absentmindedly. “I don’t expect you to forget Garrett. I want Ryan to know as much about him as you can share. I want to blend into your life, not make you create an entire new one. We can’t tuck messy emotions into neat packages. We have no typical response to what we have experienced. You especially…yours wasn’t a typical los...

Tuesday Tales and Giving Hugs

Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. Once per month, we even write to an image.  You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds. This week our group writes to the word- hug .    This will be an excerpt f ro m my new WIP for a new romance contemporary. Enjoy!~              Conner showed up after supper time Friday evening. I’d put aside a plate for him, tucking it into the microwave. He didn’t get many home cooked meals while he was working. These clinical rotations really took every minute of his time. I heard his car and practically skipped to the front door, holding it open as a welcoming, not just letting him in. “How are you?” He hugged me tightly with both arms. “I’m great, been a good day. Are you terribly tired?” “Nah, I’m okay. I actually g...

Tuesday Tales and a Little Pill

Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. Once per month, we even write to an image.  You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds. This week our group writes to the word- pill .    This will be an excerpt f ro m Twister Fate, my new WIP for a new romance contemporary. Enjoy!~ Strolling into the kitchen, I wondered if she had a guilty conscience. “What’s up?” Not missing a beat, she continued chopping vegetables, throwing a question back at me. “Did you have a nice visit with Violet?” “More than just nice, it was enlightening. She was so forthcoming about how you called Conner to come see me after I got home. Really? Why did you do that? What made you do such a thing?” That made her stop chopping. “I was worried about you. I knew he was a huge support to you in the hospital. Why do you think I didn...

Tuesday Tales and Just One More Push

Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. Once per month, we even write to an image.  You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds. This week our group writes to the word- push .    This will be an excerpt f ro m Twister Fate, my new WIP for a new romance contemporary. Enjoy!~ In that moment like a funnel I pressed all my sadness and frustration pain tolerance and resolution into pushing my son into the world. I inhaled deeply before bearing down all I had into his arrival. I felt my hair matted to my forehead, drenched with my sweat. I felt the trail of tears pouring down my cheeks. I could see Garrett's face above me when we made love that gave our child life. I thought of his expression so intent and loving when he looked deep into my eyes penetrating my soul as well as my body. I ground again pushing, s...

What the Storm Didn't Take - SNEAK PEEK

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers...I've been working hard on my newest romance novel, What the Storm Didn't Take. I was inspired by my friendships I've had and also some of the difficulties some of my friends have gone through. Some of my dearest friends lost everything in an Oklahoma tornado. The twister literally dropped out of the sky right behind their home. Everything they owned was strewn and scattered. Thankfully, no one was hurt during the storm. However, in my novel, the heroine loses her husband as he is trying to rescue her. The way she chooses to move forward in her life drives the plot.   I'd like to offer you a sample of my book, a small excerpt of what I'm working on. In this small piece, our heroine, Rachel, is learning how to deal with reality as a young widow. A dear friend, Conner, is trying to convince her to attend a grief support group. Let's see how it goes- Despite appearances, anger had been bubbling beneath the surface, trying to ...

Tuesday Tales and a Phone to Heaven

Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. Once per month, we even write to an image.  You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds. This week our group writes to the word- phone .    This will be an excerpt f ro m Twister Fate, my new WIP for a new romance contemporary. Enjoy!~ “You’re going to be better than fine, you’re going to be amazing.” Conner whispered from above, so soft I’m sure the nurse behind him didn’t hear him. How did he know I was in a panic? “I hope so.” I could only whisper back in faith, because I had no confidence in myself. A slight hesitation at the automatic sliding doors, he momentarily stopped pushing. I swear I heard him inhale sharply, deeply. I imagined his hands gripping the handles, tighter than I held my son, for fear I’d break him. We were both holding on…to what I...

Tuesday Tales in the Mirror...what would you see?

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! This week our group writes to the reflective word- mirror .    This will be an excerpt f ro m Twister Fate, a new WIP for a new romance contemporary.     Releasing a long exhale, Cameron took his time with one simple sentence. “Sheila wants to move back to the East Coast when I finish school. She’s actually looking for jobs out there.” Suddenly, this girl angered me, taking advantage of Cameron’s emotions. He was too much a gentleman to tell her no. “What about your job? Seems to me it should be up to you, since you’re gonna be a doctor.” “I can get a job just about anywhere. There’s always a need for physicians.” “Don’t you have to take state license exams or something to practice medicine in different states? That test can’t be too easy.” “You’re right, most states require separate testing, but there’s some reciprocity too.” Running his hand through his hair, he appeared contrite. “We...

Tuesday Tales are Evil...Really?

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! This week our group writes to the simple sounding word- evil.    This will be the last installment f ro m Heart Nectar, a new WIP for a new series please see my interpretation. ! “I'd never do anything evil to you.” Rubbing his hands together, George kept looking at Mindie, his eyes pleading, asking for chances to be her everything. “Why didn’t you tell me?” Stupid question, her reaction, this situation, everything told her why. How could she ignore the sincerity of his love coming through each motion of body language? “Well, I mean, I know why you didn’t tell me, but, I’m still not sure how to take it.” “I only wanted an honest beginning, nothing complicated, no strings, no reason for you to doubt my feelings for you have nothing to do with business. I’m asking you to trust me, no matter how difficult it may be.” Staring at a spot on the floor, she refused to look into his eyes. All resolve disappeared when she gazed into h...

Tuesday Tales, the Eye of the Tiger...

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! This week our group writes to the teasing word, Tiger. Fro m Steal My Heart , a new WIP for a new series. "Who needs a tiger when we have a cougar?" Nixie wrinkled her nose never taking her eyes off the beautiful woman and her obviously younger companion. “What am I doing wrong?” “You aren’t wrong, absolutely nothing is wrong with you. Will you be easier on my poor best friend?” Carolyn snacked on popcorn, staring into the tiger enclosure. “You had a great idea to come to the zoo, it’s been way too long. I guess I’ve been way too stressed out.” “Nothing like childhood to bring a smile, huh?” Finally turning around away from the snuggling couple, she snagged a few pieces of popcorn from Carolyn’s bucket. “Today, we don’t think about men, wine, money, business, or being an adult. We pretend we are young again, when these creatures fascinated us.” “We are supposed to not think about men when you just described them perfectly? Yo...

Tuesday Tales, Who Needs a Cozy Setup?

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! This week our group writes to the cozy picture prompt below. We must capture the image in 300 words, no more, no less. So, here we go from  Heart Nectar , a current WIP. “This is my wine.” Sitting beside a warm fire, Carolyn’s insides absorbed the healing properties of the perfectly aged blend. “This is one of my first vintages.” “The color is superb.” Charles tilted the glass, admiring the legs on the side. “Excellent body as well.” Sniffing the contents, inhaling deeply, he closed his eyes. “Very nice bouquet to match, you just might have your first medal winning bottle.” “We’re so excited to be part of the competition. It’s our first big show. Of course, we’ve been in some smaller shows. Hopefully, we do well and it gets our brand some exposure.” Nervously tapping the side of her glass, she finally put it on the table. “Thank you for stopping by, I wasn’t sure if you could include me in your schedule.” “Of course I could fit you in, a lov...
