Hello Fellow Fathomers! Today in The Locker I combine a book review with a movie review for The Silver Linings Playbook. As soon as the movie released last fall in the theater, I just had to go see it. (and I see few movies in the theater) Silver Linings Playbook Matthew Quick’s excellent, heartfelt novel provided the start of a screenplay with substance. From the opening scene to the end, David O. Russell captured my imagination and I found myself cheering that he did not try to “fix” anyone- instead, he revealed to the audience how life actually is for many people living with various degrees of mental illness. For 122 minutes, we see a glimpse into the highs and lows that sometimes cycle for people several times within a given day.   I identified with the mother, Dolores, played so brilliantly by Jacki Weaver- trying to hold her family together while standing firm to her own principles. Welcome to The Locker for book review time once again.   Today, it’s all about American Goddesses by Gary Henry.     Gary is an author, reviewer, ultra-marathoner, and lover of women. Please visit his book review site Honest Indie Book Reviews ~ http://honestindiebookreviews.wordpress.com/ I give this unique novel 3.5 snowflakes. Overall, I enjoyed this super hero tale of women saving the day. I found the storyline engaging and intriguing. Other than a few housekeeping errors, i.e. one minor character’s name and a city changing spellings in a couple of instances and couple slight grammatical issues, this book is worth the time and money to read. Gary begins with the notion that any of us average ordinary women could become a superhero with infinite powers. It pushed my mind into overdrive with what powers I could envision myself with. Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Welcome to Tuesday Tales, a new project I'm delighted to be a part of. Each of the authors included in this series will contribute a sneak teaser at a work in progress, an inspired paragraph, or other flash fiction contribution. Today's subject is based upon a photo of a city of our choice. I chose Denver, CO, the setting most largely detailed in my suspense novel, Blue Ink-The Skin Stalker. I step out of the romance genre with this project, a first of many I have in progress substantially set outside my usual lovestory angles.
