Tuesday Tales and Prepare

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. This week the word prompt is "prepare". You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds.  This will be an excerpt f ro m my new yet-to-be-named WIP. Enjoy!~ Owen sat beside the waning fire, staring into the glowing embers. Memories invaded his thoughts, turning this otherwise peaceful evening disturbing. He hadn’t talked to his former girlfriend, Morgan, for about six weeks. He had known Morgan as long as he’d known Caleb, since they were just out of the toddler stage. She became his best friend—he never thought of her as a girl until her beauty blossomed from behind the dirt on her cheeks and under her fingernails. The three of them were like peas in a pod, knowing each other’s secrets, even the devastating ones. Owen’s stomach churned while his chest burned. Tears threatened and h...

Making a Difference - Eradicate MS

Image
I try to host a health related post each week in The Locker. I like to share my experiences in the hopes of helping someone else. I've decided to make a little turn and have a guest host for the next few weeks. My friend Brian is a beast. He cycles more miles in a year than I probably drive in my car. He has a passion for health, and shares an equal passion to eradicate MS. Please be kind to Brian and give him a warm welcome. Hugs- Research on immune activity in MS Understanding and stopping MS in its tracks requires a better understanding of the role that the immune system plays in this disease. This system is involved both in the inflammatory attacks on myelin and, very possibly, in the injury to axons (the wire-like nerve fibers) that contributes to longer-term disability. Research on the immune system includes studies on: Understanding components of the immune system such as T cells, B cells, and antibodies. Identifying new targets for ther...

5 Snowflake Book Review!!!! Colleen Hoover!

Image
Book Review ***** Snowflakes!   Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover Goodreads Maybe Someday This 367 page book is the first I’ve read by Colleen Hoover. When I saw this book listed as a fan favorite, I decided to read her work and get a better understanding of who this author is, and how she writes. It was beautiful. I’m proud to be a fellow Texan with folks like Colleen. Ms. Hoover’s succinct writing style did not disappoint me. I like descriptors, good scene/character development, and closing a scene. She did a very good job of articulating and setting up the characters. I noticed one potential error, but, it was simply a mix up of words. I appreciated how thoroughly she covered the life that a deaf person would face each day. The realism charmed me, and I was amazed how well she saw the perspective through Ridge’s eyes, even with the profound hearing loss. It was fabulous to see how well this character played the guitar and could put together songs. I will alw...

Tuesday Tales - Spring Break from the Mountains

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers and welcome to this weeks' Tuesday Tales. This week our group is writing to a beautiful picture prompt. It's only 300 words, no more no less. There's no telling where we will take you in such a short time. I'm taking you to Caleb. His best friend and business partner, Owen Guthrie, was in a terrible accident. Caleb is driving to the hospital with a barrage of baggage invading his mind. So, please absorb the following picture and prompt: Caleb hit the road with thoughts running rampant in misguided directions. He never imagined a life without his best friend and had never wanted to. Being young, life was folding out in front of them. They had more fish to catch, camping to do, mountains to climb, and families to make. Owen never deserved the pain he suffered, and it seemed he was finally coming to terms with the responsible, pensive man his childhood molded him to be. They talked about building a cabin in the mountains and extending their ope...

Tuesday Tales and the "END"

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Welcome to Tuesday Tales. I introduce you to a  WIP I have going under my sweet pseudonym Allee Mae. It's the 3rd in my YA paranormal romance series the Critter Getters. This book is entitled  Finding Love in a Black Lagoon.  Our prompt today is the word "end".  As a writer, one of our favorite things to type is "the end",  although it might not always be the favorite thing for a reader to read. :) “Kal and I are headed into town for a supply run. Anybody want anything?” Caleb’s hair was freshly combed and still slightly wet from a recent shower. “Dude, are you wearing cologne?” Owen leaned toward Caleb and took a big whiff. “That shirt you’re wearing doesn’t even have a stain on it either.” “Cut it out man, I just took a shower, that’s all.” Caleb shrugged his shoulders and as hard as he tried, he couldn’t shake the sheepish look he had on his face. Leandra took a long sip of her iced tea. “I think you and Kal are ...

Tuesday Tales in a Library (a writers home away from home)

Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Welcome to Tuesday Tales. I introduce you to a new WIP I have going under my sweet pseudonym Allee Mae. It's the 3rd in my YA paranormal romance series the Critter Getters. This book is entitled  Finding Love in a Black Lagoon.  Our prompt today is a picture.  This lovely picture invokes cozy images cuddled up with quiet hardback friends that always took me away from reality. Much like these two want to be taken away from their realities. “Wait, Owen, there’s something I do want to tell you.” Pearl ran up to meet Owen and tugged on the arm of his shirt. “Will you please stop?” Years of pent up emotions bubbled closer to the surface than they had before. He never had anyone other than Caleb and Morgan he could really talk to about his mom’s incarceration. Of course, everyone in town knew what happened and every so often he would catch the sideways glance of pity and horror. His steel trap mind began pushing the brain vault shut, not really...

Tuesday Tales and Fresh Meat

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Welcome to Tuesday Tales. I introduce you to a new WIP I have going under my sweet pseudonym Allee Mae. It's the 3rd in my YA paranormal romance series the Critter Getters. This book is entitled  Finding Love in a Black Lagoon.  In honor of hungry tummies everywhere,  our word prompt today is "meat". (Or, maybe we're talking quality top choice sexiness.) Without further ado...please see my snippet with "meat" as the prompt word. “I’m sorry, Pearl, I’m not trying to ruin our picnic. I’m asking questions, that’s all. I’m trying to understand you.” Owen reached up and lightly gripped her hand. Pearl shook him off and walked toward a tree stump, then quickly sat down on it. “I don’t care if you believe me or not. I didn’t ask for any of this and I’d much rather be alone than try to continually explain myself.” Pearl sighed and picked at the strings from her cutoff shorts.  “Owen, there are times in my life when I feel ashamed...

Tuesday Tales Traipsing Through a Field

Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Welcome to Tuesday Tales. I introduce you to a new WIP I have going under my sweet pseudonym Allee Mae. It's the 3rd in my YA paranormal romance series the Critter Getters. This book is entitled  Finding Love in a Black Lagoon.  Our word prompt today is "field" and I have plenty I can say with this particular prompt. Without further ado...please see my snippet with "field" as the prompt word. Owen’s voice became uncharacteristically gruff. “I said I would be okay, I’m a grown man. Dammit, you aren’t my mother.” Caleb stomped off. “Sure, you’re okay, don’t come griping to me when you get cancer or some radioactive sickness.” He yelled ahead to the girls. “Owen’s gonna stay here in the weeds and get ticks. He said never mind about him.” The breeze settled through the brush and dipped low, providing relief from the heavy air. Pearl smiled at Owen and offered him a bottle of water. “Thirsty? Looks like you guys have been hiking ...

This book is entitled  Finding Love in a Black Lagoon.  Our word prompt today is "mirror" and I have plenty I can say with this particular prompt. Without further ado...please see my snippet with "mirror" as the prompt word. Owen tried again. “Pearl, is that you?” He parted the underbrush to get a better look. However, he stopped before he made any actual forward progress. The rest of the group stood back, speechless, and watched Owen’s movements. Owen looked to Caleb for assistance.  Caleb shifted his backpack and moved backward, but he subtly pointed toward the young woman. Owen gulped and nodded. “Hello? My friends and I just want to know if you’re okay.” With still no response, Leandra got involved. “Hello in there, we just want to know you are safe, ...

Tuesday Tales Conquering a Hill

Image
Amazon Allee Mae Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Welcome to Tuesday Tales. I introduce you to a new WIP I have going under my sweet pseudonym Allee Mae. It's the 3rd in my YA paranormal romance series the Critter Getters. This book is entitled  Finding Love in a Black Lagoon.  Our word prompt today is "hill" and I have plenty I can say with this particular prompt. Without further ado...please see my snippet with "hill" as the prompt word. Breathing hard, she ran off the dirt path and down a squat hill into a swath of small trees. The pointy branches poked and scratched her smooth skin, drawing blood in squiggly shaped patterns. She stomped on rocks and stickers in her bare feet, further toughening their hide. The sun glared through holes in the dense foliage, stinging her sensitive eyes. She hurdled dead felled trees, landing as lightly as a deer without breaking stride. The noise behind her quieted, confusing her senses, yet sharpened her awareness. S...

Friday Flash Fiction Is It Really God's Hand?

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers and welcome to the Friday Flash Fiction...the source for 100 words for one shot...one picture is only worth 100 words in here. What do you think of the picture above? An exploding star perhaps? A witch casting her spell? Some crazy person actually holding dry ice in their hands? Our little group will compose our best interpretation of this photo. Each writer will post their 100, so, give each of us a visit and comment. Tell us what you think.  Enjoy “What do you want me to say, Owen? That I shoot sparks and lightning bolts from my fingertips.” Pearl angrily laced up her trail boots and stood abruptly. “I’m sorry, Pearl, I’m not trying to ruin our picnic. I’m asking questions, that’s all. I’m trying to understand you.” Owen reached up and lightly gripped her hand. Pearl shook him off and walked toward a tree stump, she quickly sat down on it. “I don’t care if you believe me or not. I didn’t ask for any of this and I’d much rather be alone ...

Image
Finding Love and Bigfoot Book 2 of the Critter Getters Ahoy Fellow Fathomers and welcome to Tuesday Tales. This week our talented group of writers has the word prompt "bells", apropos for the Christmas season, wouldn't you say? I take you now to the 3rd book in writing progress from Allee Mae's new series, The Critter Getters. The title of this one is, Finding Love in a Black Lagoon. Let's peek in on Owen and Pearls' private conversation... “So, what were Christmases like at your house?” Pearl kept her gaze locked on the twinkling stars above. Owen shifted, stretched, and in one motion was lying close enough to graze her arm with his. Neither moved from their place on the blanket, but instead kept their focus on the velvety nighttime sky. “Some years good, some bad, I s’pose like anyone else.” “Do you really believe everyone has an occasional bad holiday? You gotta be joking.” “Things happen in life, Pearl. What if someone in the famil...
