Tuesday Tales - an Impressive Gift Photo Prompt

Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Happy Tuesday and time for another edition of Tuesday Tales. This week I take you  to my new young adult romance WIP, Eyelashes Freeze in North Dakota-But Not Warm Hearts.  Irene and Cody has some interesting word play.  I present the following picture prompt "gift":

"In a short period of time, Irene deduced her complex word usage was a sad attempt to hide behind her fear of speaking to a handsome man. This strange territory unhinged Irene and created almost as much unpleasantness as excitement in her stomach. However, she forged ahead by keeping her mission in mind.
“Thank you for your kindness, I’m not normally this dull.  I don’t think so, at least. My roommate sticks around during our conversations.”  Irene imagined Cody as an old friend checking in on her new life in Fargo. She invoked images of puppies, kittens, and other benign, yet cuddly, gifts from nature. Possibly, it would ease her nerves as they talked.
“I’m sticking around, Irene. You are the most interesting person I’ve talked to in a while. Even if our conversations resemble a walking game of Scrabble.”
“Are you a student in the health sciences program?” Irene wanted to know how much they academically shared in common.
“Actually, I’m completing my residency training in sports medicine here. It’s pretty cool, I currently serve as the hockey team physician.”
“It was you I saw at the game last night, taking your place on the bench with the team.” Irene mentally patted herself on the back for successfully feigning the feminine art of being coy. She knew all along Cody had been there, she knew she saw him.
“Yes, I was there, I go to every game, one of the perks. I enjoy the intensity of sports action and this puts me right in the middle of it. What about you? What are you studying here at UND?”
“I’m a student in the athletic training program as well, however, not serving my residency, yet. I hope to eventually attend medical school to specialize in sports medicine.”
“Maybe I can help you out with a recommendation, Irene. You know, they like me pretty well around here.” As he rolled his eyes animatedly, it indicated to her he was kidding around about his overinflated status.

"Now that you've read my contribution to TT, please visit my creative friends over at our main blog, Tuesday Tales for their take on the picutre prompt "gift". Happy Valentines Day!!

Could he be trying to get closer to her? Sports medicine, intriguing. I hope this story will continue. "Walking game of Scrabble", superb!

I laughed out loud at the "Scrabble" comment. Being a Scrabble player, I could definitely identify. Great job!

Oooh, sports medicine and hockey. That's a combination I can get behind. :) A nice exchange, I'd like to see these two get to know each other better.

Cute meet up! I could use some lessons on the "feminine art of being coy", lol :)

I'm wondering which one of them is the most nervous

I agree with everyone with the reference to a scrabble game. I really enjoyed this tale.

I love the sports medicine connection! I also love how Irene relaxes when she find out they do have it in common.
