Tuesday Tales - We Got the Beat!

Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! This week our group writes to the simple sounding word- beat This will be an excerpt from Snow Spankings, a new WIP for a new erotic contemporary.

Slowing the truck to a crawl, Billy bypassed uninjured folks, craning his neck looking for those in immediate need. A private melody continued in his mind, easing his distress, loosening the grip on his chest.
Our bodies touch, I don’t need my eyes to see…
Dreaming of what you mean to me…
Billy wouldn’t ignore anyone seriously injured, no matter how absorbed he was on reaching her. Thankfully though, no one approached him in a panic, requiring his instant attention. I’ll circle back, once I see she’s okay. Relief washed over him, although very little scenery looked familiar. He felt himself getting closer to his bride, closing the cluttered gap over the destruction.
Sunrise means I can see you again…
Thank God time passes so quickly till then…
The few miles dragged by with the speed of a leisurely snail, while he dodged debris erratically covering the route. He recalled when she told him he was going to be a father.
They’d tried for months to conceive. Making love never became a chore, even when she came rushing at him with a thermometer in her hand. “We gotta do this now. Give me five minutes.” Shucking her pants, running toward the bedroom, clutching his hand. “C’mon ovaries, don’t fail me now.”
“I’m sure she’s fine, you talked with her right before she went underground, right?”
And....that was it, before things changed forever.
When I think about Billy, I beat myself up all over again...

Yes definitely want to read more. Great snippet!
This is so well done with his tension and the harrowing situation. I like the way the lyrics play in his head and the flashback.

Nice scene! I like the interplay of the lyrics and his memories.
Nice way to tease me. Now I need to know more. I hope she's safe and pregnant. She is, isn't she? Great snippet!
