Tuesday Tales and Sand...Did Someone Say Beach?

Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! Happy Tuesday and time for another edition of Tuesday Tales. This week I take you  to my new Christmas romance WIP, Snowballs Not Beach Balls.   I present the word prompt, "sand":

"The surf splashed against the rocks, the white caps a sharp contrast to the dark gray water. Muted light filtered through a hazy sky, preparing for the sunrise. Janie Coupler sat on the Hawaiian sand, gripping a mug of steaming coffee. “How did a snow bunny become a beach bum?” She spoke softly against the loudly splashing waves.
Vague memories of days past in freezing temperatures, snowmen, and hot cocoa bombarded her reality, making her homesick for something she never really understood. Leaving the mountains shortly before adolescence, could it really have made that much impact on her happiness? Janie recollected the excitement of her father’s job transfer to Hawaii. Wide-eyed, all she could recall thinking was, we’re moving to Hawaii, in eager childhood fashion. The family packed up, moved, and fifteen years passed by rapidly. Janie barely recalled blinking during that time.
Now twenty-seven, the accomplished women’s surfer spent much more time in deep retrospect than in looking forward. Approaching thirty awakened rooted feelings of what might have been without creating regret- albeit it was a close cousin. “I refuse to become a victim of compunction. I’ve done nothing wrong. And, just look at my backyard.” Janie loudly vocalized gazing once again at the picture perfect tropical display. Off to the side, a few hermit crabs scuttled along the sand, emphasizing the genuine beach setting.
Winter approached, the best season for surfing many of Hawaii’s famed locations. The comfort of sitting cross-legged on her freshly waxed board centered her during most stressful times. Janie’s heart raced, imagining the feel of her tummy against the board, paddling against the sprays out to the line-up, where she would catch the wave.
Lately, though, she felt caught inside, not able to get past the breaking surf to find a suitable wave. If she was truly going to take off in her life, just like in the water, the conditions might be choppy, but, Janie was prepared to drop in."

I liked her introspection and the confirmation she was going to fight any negative thoughts crowding in.

What deep introspection. I love the flutter of excitement mingling with the trepidation. I can't wait to see what she does with the approaching future.

Very nice contrasts! The Hawaiian beach and the wintery mountains really draw the reader into her introspection. :)

I love how you set the scene at the beach. This is a great story.

I love how she uses the ocean and her experience as a surfer to illustrate her need for a change in life. I can't wait to see where it takes her!

I can relate to her love of the cold mountains and yet she has the opportunity to embrace the tropics in her own backyard. Life can definitely be like the ocean for us all. I hope she finds the calm.
