Tuesday Tales and a Fussy Body

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. This week we share the prompt "fussy".  You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds.  This will be an excerpt f ro m my brand new yet-to-be-named WIP. Enjoy!~ Behind closed eyes, my mind sees as clearly in the dark as when wrapped in the rays of a sunny day, and everything is in fast forward- these clips keep sliding through so fast I can’t grab onto any single one to keep it stationary. Just like I can’t grab onto you to keep you from moving on, away from me, away from us, away from everything I know as love, as comfort, as home. Of course I can’t sleep, my fussy mind prohibits the respite my body desperately needs.   Could you sleep if you knew you wouldn’t hold those hands again so tightly, gripping...

Tuesday Tales - Green

Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. This week we share the prompt "green".  You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds.  This will be an excerpt f ro m my brand new yet-to-be-named WIP. Enjoy!~ I’m not sure I can step up to be friends with you. As with a precious few ex-loves, either I’d never want to see them again under any circumstance, or parts of me would forever achingly pine. Unfortunately for me, you’re the second situation. Imagining who you see, who you’re holding, who’s making you smile, even laugh- which seemed so rare. It’s tough to make you laugh. Maybe that was on me, I couldn’t bring laughter from your heart. Rolling endless acres of mournful evergreens overcome my soul, making me regret we’d ever met. No one should ever want to fall in love, this pain isn’t worth it. Rolli...

Tuesday Tales and Eating Seeds

Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. This week the word prompt is "seed". You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds.  This will be an excerpt f ro m my new yet-to-be-named WIP. Enjoy!~ The sun warmed the truck and the travelers, creating a lazy atmosphere. They finally turned the radio on, seeking new stations as they left one tower band when the incessant static drowned out the music. They stopped occasionally to stretch their legs and get refreshment. Caleb insisted on sunflower seeds and Dr. Pepper to keep him alert while the rest of them chose random boredom foods. He and Owen exchanged turns driving. The late afternoon sun finally dipped low enough to signal supper. Yet, they continued on, with promises of home cooking from Mr. Richard upon their arrival. At the end of the day, deep in south...

Tuesday Tales and Healing Waters

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. However, once per month, we write to an image. This week it's the picture prompt. You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds.  This will be an excerpt f ro m my new yet-to-be-named WIP. Enjoy!~ The moss-covered cypress trees framed the invisible lake. She considered it invisible because she knew where to go to hide away from the throngs of day to day life. Simple nature calmed her soul.   Tangles of aquatic plants flourished in the natural body of water. The only natural large lake in Texas. Also famed as the largest natural lake in the South, the lake had a mystical reputation. People came to get lost, to get away from hectic life of nosy, invasive civilization. She was there to get lost, to get far away from the not only the things happening in her life, but,...

Tuesday Tales and Ghost of a Chance

Image
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. Once per month, we even write to an image.  You never know what you might encounter when you get inside our minds. This week our group writes to the word- ghost.    This will be an excerpt f ro m my new WIP for a new romance contemporary, Steal My Heart. Enjoy!~ “Hey, boss lady, what do you think of your party?” “Boss lady? Where did that come from?” “I do work for you.” “Yes, you’ve even been in charge more than me lately. I meant your speech, you sound more like Eugene-y from the block than Eugene from behind the computer.” “I learned I don’t always have to be stuffy to get my point across.” “I think you’re sweet on Lesley and it’s loosened your defense mechanisms.” Playing reverse psychiatrist was not what I had in mind. “I walked over here to check on you.” Lola...

Tuesday Tales...What Makes Us an Us?

Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales. A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. Once per month, we even write to an image. This week, we write to an image.    This will be an excerpt f ro m my new WIP for a new romance contemporary. Enjoy Could we pick things back up?   I wanted clear air, forgiveness established, you know?” “Of course, silly me, skipping ahead a few chapters, assuming too much. It’s not a party till Lola puts her foot in her mouth.” Shooting out in rapid fire succession, I couldn’t stop talking. Glumly, I realized, you really can’t put the toothpaste back into the tube.   “You’ve always worked best without a filter. I knew where I stood.” Marty smiled, patting my knee. His hands. Oh, his hands, working down the buttons on my blouse- slowly unlooping each catch of the button in the hole. Memories filled my fingertips with the desi...

Tuesday Tales and I'm Starving!

Image
Welcome to our visual Tuesday Tales, this post made me hungry every time I saw the picture prompt. It was easy to develop 300 words about this culinary masterpiece, enjoy....now, I'm gonna go find some food. “I’m starving, whatever you have going smells absolutely bomb.” Nixie paced next to the table, having already placed their plates and silverware. “How much longer is it gonna be? Dammit, I need sustenance.” “You’re gonna have a stroke someday if you don’t control your impatience.” “I just might murder someone.” Lowering her voice, her words still lacked the necessary sinister tone to make them believable. “I’m sorry I haven’t been more open with you lately.” Mindie’s apology floated from the kitchen within a cloud of sincerity meant to soothe Nixie’s savage disposition. “What’s that, I couldn’t hear you?” Mindie entered the dining room, hot dish in hand. “You heard me, I know you did. You’ve got the ears of a bionic woman.” Presenting their supper with flare...
