Tuesday Tales and Which Road to Take?

Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! It's time for Tuesday Tales.
A group of writers gather together and give our interpretation of a specific word prompt each week. Once per month, we even write to an image. This week, we write to an image.  This will be an excerpt from my new WIP for a new romance contemporary.

Enjoy!~

“Absolutely, my parents have been saving money for years to help me do this. It’s what I’ve wanted since I was a kid. Now, it’s finally happening.”

“Won’t your girlfriend miss you?” Where did that come from? Was my mouth so desperate for communication it went rogue? I blame it on the Id, lurking in the corners of my personality, waiting for the opportunity to join the conversation.

Tweaking my nose with his finger ever so gently, he actually answered my bold question. “I don’t have a girlfriend, problem solved.”

A table full of loud persons ranging in age from infant to elderly cleared, opening up the silence in our little area of the festival. Every word would be magnified now, the conversation less secluded. With people around, I felt safe, able to chat, the friendly atmosphere disguised my uncertainty. One on one could be a challenge. Charlie guided me to the table, apparently not ready to give up our chat. “Let’s have a seat, I think this will fit your mom, Lindie, and anyone else ready to break bread with the enemy.” Pointing at himself, I knew he meant the dance off. “Let’s take the road less traveled.”

Before long, we’d either celebrate or concede to the opponent. I’d like to concede, I could concede all evening. Heat rose to my cheeks, even hitting above my eyebrows. Self-embarrassment was one of my specialties.

“Don’t you want to sit with your folks?” I wanted to know if he was really interested in me, or just wanted a convenient get-away from the ever-present relatives.

“I like your company. I see them all the time.”

“But, you’re leaving soon.”

“Exactly.” He smiled again, letting me know something about me captured his attention, and he wasn’t quite ready to let it go.

Lovely! He sounds like a keeper. I hope she gets over her insecurity and lets him in.
